“The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection.”
The shutter snaps as the camera captures the moment, suspending time, holding fast the image framed by the student’s lens. Paintbrush dipped into waters-deep
blue, spreads color across canvas, as the
vision moves from inside the soul of the artist to the material where others can see and experience. Hands caked with clay, pressing into the shapeless
lump, forming, molding, creating sculpture out
of that which had no form.
At Whitefield Academy, the arts faculty inspires students to create sincere and significant work while recognizing the beauty of self-expression through
the arts. Believing that all students have natural
artistic ability waiting to be developed, instructors encourage these young artists to discover and cultivate their God-given creativity.
Beginning in the Lower School, students receive weekly instruction in visual art with a focus on both experiential learning as well as exposure to art
history, renowned artists and their work, and the
elements of art. Students continue with visual art in the Middle School during fifth and sixth grades and then move on to arts electives of their choosing.
With extensive offerings at the Upper School
level, students may pursue areas of interest and continue to AP Studio Art.
