Our mission: Whitefield Academy, a Christ-centered college preparatory school, exists to bolster Christian families in rearing
young people who go on to college and life with a passion for learning, for others ahead of self, and for the living and
active Jesus.
Whitefield is a special place. We are not just another “Christian school.” Instead, we are a covenant Christ-centered school.
As a covenant school, we join arms with each other as followers of Jesus Christ in fulfilling the school’s mission to raise
future generations of Christian servant-leaders. It is our shared faith and our commitment to this mission that makes Whitefield
unique among other schools in Atlanta. As a community we understand that we are not just building a school for our children,
but also for our children’s children.
Recognizing this great responsibility, our Board of Trustees and administration have planned a bright future for Whitefield
in furtherance of this mission. The administration and Board has prayerfully considered the school’s future, prioritized
needed campus improvements, and developed a building improvement campaign.
“Whitefield’s Board of Trustees has set a goal to raise $11.5 million in gifts and pledges towards these projects and committed
that no new facilities will be built without 100 percent of the funds committed,” said Tom Wood, director of advancement.
“To date, the campaign steering committee has already raised a significant percentage of the funds needed for this improvement
plan.”
Part of the plan has already been completed with the recent installation of synthetic turf on Whitefield’s main playing
field, a project which will allow unlimited use of the field. In addition, a carpool canopy has been added to the lower
school entrance to protect our students during inclement weather.
The next piece of the development program will be the new academic building for grades 9-12. Construction on a new 37,000
square foot building is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2011 and be ready for the 2012-2013 school year. This building
will house our upper school and include: 18 classroom/laboratories, offices and faculty work areas, student study areas,
and a black box theatre for our middle and upper school performing arts programs. A 10,000 square foot addition for this
building has also been planned to provide 8 more classrooms when Whitefield enrollment requires these classrooms and funding
is received. Once construction is complete, the current upper school facility will become Whitefield’s middle school building.
In addition to these improvements, Whitefield plans to acquire contiguous land to allow the build-out of our campus master
plan, improve traffic flow, and add much-needed parking.
