Photography Club
The Photography Club is for all students grades 9 - 12 who are interested in learning
more about photography as an art form. The club functions through weekly e-mail
assignments. Students take several digital images based upon the assignment or theme
of the week. Students e-mail the images to Mrs. Brown for individual feedback and
helpful hints on improving their photography skills. In the spring, students will
display some of their photographs in the Whitefield Art Show. The club is a requirement
for any student who would like to take Advanced Placement Photography. Students
who wish to take this course in the 12th grade must be enrolled in the photo club
for at least one year before they can be considered. The Club is available for current
art students as well as those who are not enrolled in a visual art course at Whitefield
Academy. There is no level of experience necessary. All that is required is an interest
in learning and enjoying photography, access to the internet, an e-mail address,
and a digital camera. If you are interested or need more information, please contact

Movie Critic Club
Sponsors Matt Petersen and Harold Hilliard host Movie Critic Club every Wednesday
in Middle School room M-604. The club picks new and older movies from various genres
and holds a class discussion concerning the various aspects of each movie including
characters, plot, theme, special effects, and much more. Club members share their
opinion on each movie and list all strengths and weaknesses before rating the movies
from one to five stars.

Eighth Grade Girls Bible Study
Eighth grade girls gather every Wednesday morning to spend time with God. This bible
study is a time of fellowship and in depth conversation about God’s word. We spend
time each week looking at scripture as we walk though a book of the New Testament.
Reading through books such as Philippians and James we have had conversations that
touch on multiple facets of God and who he is in our lives. Come grow and be renewed
weekly in your faith at our bible study. For more information, contact Allison Petersen
at
Animation Club
Animation Club for Middle School students meets every Wednesday morning in the computer
lab. The students have the opportunity to create their own animations in two very
different computer animation programs, Alice and Pivot. There is a great exchange
of ideas as students learn from each other through sharing their animations, as
well as sharing any problems they encounter, and the solutions. For more information,
please contact faculty sponsor

Robotics Club
Interested students and faculty sponsor
founded the WA Robotics Club in 2007. The club meets about two times each month
on Wednesday mornings. Goals are to learn about the rapidly growing field of robotics
and to build robots for fun. Club members share their knowledge, experience, and
resources. Membership is open to 6th -12th grade students.
Sports Talk Club
The Sports Talk Club exists to discuss, in detail, the current events and “finer
things” relating to the modern sports world. This club is an opportunity for students
to bring up any opinions or questions they may have concerning the sports landscape.
Anything from headline news to sports movies or highlights of games to amazing photos
can be covered on a Wednesday morning at the Sports Talk Club. For more information

Sign Language Club
Did you know that American Sign Language is the third most used language in the
United States? It’s true! The Middle School Sign Language Club exists to educate
students about Deaf culture, along with learning basic sign language survival skills,
in a relaxed environment. Aside from weekly vocabulary and grammar mini-lessons,
the Sign Language Club welcomes guest speakers involved with the Deaf world as well
as takes field trips into the Deaf community. Join our club and learn a new language
while serving this unique culture. For more information, contact Nicole Parker at
or call (678)305-1418.

Boy Scouts of America Troop 554
Boy Scouts of America Troop 554 was founded in 2006 at Whitefield Academy, and serves
the Covered Bridge District of the Atlanta Area Council. We have Scouts from different
schools, faiths, and backgrounds, and are very active in local and citywide activities
and services. Our programs include weekly troop meetings, extended summer camping,
high adventure treks, and monthly outdoor activities. Troop 554 Scouts are highly
visible leaders in their schools and communities with extensive involvement in athletics,
the arts and community service projects. Being a Scout in Troop 554 is an honor
and a privilege which should not be taken for granted. Things don't just happen.
Trite but true, what we get out of our program depends on what we put into it. Every
Scout in our troop is proud to be here and does his part to help keep our troop
productive and worthwhile. We want you here because you want to be here (not because
someone else thinks it's a good idea). For more information about Troop 554, please
contact Mark Fikse, Troop 554 Committee Chairman at

Strategic Games Club (US students only)
The Strategic Games Club exists first and foremost so that students can have an
enjoyable time outside the confines of the classroom. Students typically gather
one weekend a month and play games recreating historical battles or hypothetical
strategic situations. One weekend a student may captain a Viking boat raiding a
Saxon village while the next game may find him leading the historical Arthurs
Cambrogi Heavy Cavalry against Pictish invaders. Though primarily for fun, the Strategic
Games Club does enrich students in other ways. For example, having to plan a battle
and then execute or adjust that plan helps one think critically. Another great part
of the club is the rich use of imagination involved. If you are interested in knowing
more, please contact David McBride at
or call (678)305-1464.

Art Club
The Art Club is for all students grades 6 - 12 who are interested in learning more
about art. MS and US Art Clubs meet separately. The Clubs are for current art students
as well as those who do not take art at Whitefield Academy. There is no level of
experience necessary. All that is required is an interest in learning and enjoying
art. The members of the clubs will help determine, through their interests, the
type of projects that will be done. Possible projects can include drawing, painting,
clay, sculpture, photography, graphic design, and stained glass. The Clubs will
also be involved in a service capacity to help with special art needs at Whitefield
such as the sets for the plays and the Bean. The Art Club meets weekly after school.
If you are interested or need more information, please contact Debbie Childree at
(MS Art Club) or
(US Art Club).

The Compass (US students only)
The Compass is an eight-page newspaper covering school events as well as current
national and cultural issues. The newspaper staff has identified its mission, which
is printed on every issue, as "The Compass exists to promote school pride and rapport
by providing personal and accessible news about the Upper School, by the Upper School,
and for the Upper School." Any Upper School student interested in participating
in this endeavor (by writing) either occasionally or regularly, please contact faculty
sponsor
Elizabeth Hetzel.

Chess Club
Every Wednesday before school, students from the Middle and Upper School gather
to play chess, one of the world’s oldest and most challenging games. The club provides
a unique opportunity for students to cultivate logical reasoning skills and have
fun at the same time! A related event is the annual chess tournament, the Whitefield
Open, where the school-wide champion for that year is crowned. Anyone interested
in participating or learning more about chess should contact Mr. Justice at
or just come to his classroom (U301) on Wednesday morning around 8:00AM. Both the
novice and the grand-master are welcome!
