Dramatic Society and Upper School Theatre Arts
The Dramatic Society at Whitefield is dedicated to performance excellence on all levels - both onstage and off. In November,
members of the Dramatic Society compete in the GHSA One-Act Competition. Over the years, Whitefield has garnered many awards
at this event (1st in Region, 2003 and 2008; 2nd in Region, 2006 and 2007; 2nd in State, 2008; Best Actor, 2006 and 2007;
All-Star cast members). Students in the Dramatic Society study all styles of theatre, from classic to modern, absurdism
to serio-comedy, and everything in between. It is our goal to find the redemption and truth in every work, so that God may
be glorified through the craft of theatre. During the 2008-2009 year, the Dramatic Society will add a third show to its
season – a first for Whitefield!
Middle School Dramatic Arts
The Middle School Drama department of Whitefield Academy seeks to encourage and nurture young performers. As the middle
school years can be a time of extreme change and self-discovery, we hope to help students find and develop the talents that
God has given them. Opportunities for involvement include a middle school drama class and a fall after school production.
Drama class is offered for 7th and 8th graders, and a Drama rotation is available to 6th graders. The classes cover the
basics of acting technique, technical theatre and application through an in-class play project. The after school drama production
is open to all students in grades 6th through 8th. Students audition at the beginning of the school year for a role. They
will spend approximately 8 weeks rehearsing in the afternoons for a full-length play, which is performed in mid-October.
Previous productions include Alice in Wonderland (2003), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2004), Snow White (2005), Mr.
Toad's Mad Adventures (2006), and The Legend of Pocahontas (2007).
