At Whitefield, we believe that a well-rounded education includes a comprehensive understanding of the arts, through actively participating in creative work as well as studying
the significance of the arts in culture. Beginning in pre-school and extending through the senior year, Whitefield students have multiple opportunities to participate in the arts
through our band, chorale, drama, orchestra, and visual arts programs.
Students involved in the arts develop critical thinking skills, learn to turn abstract ideas into concrete realities, and find personal contentment through the integration of
their mind and spirit. As a result, these students often achieve more academically, score higher on standardized testing, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves, others,
and the human condition.
The focus to offer Whitefield students an opportunity to develop into the unique creation God intended encourages exploration of talents in a supportive and enjoyable environment.
To recognize the beauty of self-expression through the arts and inspire students to create sincere and significant work is the task of the arts faculty. The arts program is more
than simply acting in a play, singing in a chorale, playing a musical instrument, or painting a portrait; it is also a path for students to discover and express their talents,
to recognize God as the giver of those talents, and to humbly acknowledge His hand in their own individual uniqueness.
The arts enable students to reach their community as no other vehicle. Through dance, music, singing, and drama, students may communicate in a manner that transcends cultural,
social and economic boundaries, and speaks to the heart of man. The school provides opportunities for students to display their talents, both on and off-campus, through regularly
scheduled concerts, art shows, plays, and other events. Whitefield also participates regularly in GMEA and GISA-sponsored music, art, and drama competitions, encourages students
to join professional associations, and nurtures students as they mature in their artistic development.
Art Program Philosophy Statement
Believing we serve a creative God and are made in His image, the mission of the Whitefield Academy Arts program is to assist our families in enabling students to discover and
develop their God-given creative gifts, to know and understand current culture and their own deeply held beliefs through the arts and to reflect a distinctly Christian world and
life view.
