Grade Specific Experiential Learning (Field Trips)
(Trips may change from year to year)
Kindergarten
Dairy Farm
A trip to a local dairy farm is great for these students, as most have been raised in the city. Here, they get a chance to explore the sights, smells, and sounds of a working
dairy farm.
Atlanta Center for Puppetry Arts
Time for a puppetry play, with much anticipation, as a book comes to life on stage!
Animals galore!
Rather than going to the zoo, we bring the zoo to school! This is an up close and a personal look at many animals we know and love!
First Grade
Tellus Science Museum
This trip is the culmination of our first graders’ unit on rocks and minerals.
Chattahoochee Nature Center
After closing out our unit on mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, and amphibians, a trip to this nature center helps make our science book come alive!
High Touch-High Tech
The goal of this "in-house" field trip is to stimulate young minds, activate their curiosity, and nurture the child's budding imagination.
Second Grade
Overnight trip to Zoo Atlanta
During this experiential trip to the Atlanta Zoo, better known as the Nightcrawlers, our second graders enjoy experiencing the behind-the-scenes sights and sounds of the zoo at
night.
Dunwoody Nature Center
"Insectigation" is the key word for this learning adventure. Second graders delve into nature and explore God’s creation as they learn about body parts and life stages of insects.
Paper Museum
Georgia Tech plays host to this exciting event for second graders. Students learn about the history of paper and how it is manufactured. After the tour, students have an opportunity
to make their own piece of paper. To end the “day away,” a delicious lunch is enjoyed at the world famous Varsity.
Cobb County Safety Village
This off-campus trip teaches our students about fire safety, pedestrian safety, and crime prevention.
Overnight adventures are an exciting part of our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders' off-campus experiential learning.
Third Grade
Overnight trip to DeSoto Caverns
If you think you’re brave---go sleep in a cave! Our third graders learn firsthand about stalagmites and stalactites and so much more during an overnight cave trip to Childersburg,
Alabama.
Inn at Serenbe
To experience farm life as portrayed in Charlotte’s Web, our students enjoy a trip to Serenbe Farms-- complete with a hayride, animal feeding, and a lovely picnic to top-off the
day.
High Touch-High Tech
Students connect Charlotte’s Web and Wilbur’s inability to spin a spider web with Newton’s laws of motion through a variety of experiments and engaging hands-on activities.
The Nose
After completing a biography of Walt Disney, students have their caricature drawn by a professional artist and observe the techniques used in this type of cartooning, thus bringing
to life Walt Disney’s cartooning career.
Overnight adventures are an exciting part of our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders' off-campus experiential learning.
Fourth Grade
Overnight trip to Driftwood Educational Center
This is an environmental, educational overnight field trip that is focused on empowering students to develop appreciation and responsibility for our natural environment. The excursion
to St. Simons Island is the highlight of fourth grade as students learn in the context of an outdoor “classroom” that is totally hands-on, both day and night. Fourth graders explore
the beach, experience a mud pit first-hand, and learn about Georgia’s history, culture, plants, and animals during this 3-day adventure.
Indian Heritage Festival
After studying the American Indian culture in class, students travel to Stone Mountain to experience this culture through dance and drum competitions, music, authentic craft demonstrations,
cooking samples, and storytelling activities. Students also learn primitive skills such as flint-napping, bow making, fire starting, open-fire cooking, and pottery.
Braves Night
Each year, fourth graders and their families enjoy a “Fourth Grade Night at the Braves.” This is an informal night of fun and fellowship while rooting for our home team – the
Atlanta Braves!
Cobb County Safety Village
Fourth graders will experience Cobb County’s Safety Education Program both in and out of the classroom. The Safety Village is a scaled-down city concept that educates students
by applying unique hands-on learning experiences with fire and life safety, crime prevention, pedestrian safety, and railroad safety.
Overnight adventures are an exciting part of our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders' off-campus experiential learning.
Fifth Grade
Overnight trip to NASA Space Camp
Simulating space experiences and grasping the role that Americans played in moving beyond our planet is the goal of the three-day “launch” to Huntsville, Alabama. Students also
grow in team building activities and lasting relationships with classmates and teachers before blasting off to the Middle School.
Cyclorama
Students view "The Battle of Atlanta", the world's largest oil painting, which depicts the most significant battle of the Atlanta campaign as it occurred. In the museum, students
watch a short film about the Union General William T. Sherman's "March to the Sea".
Botanical Garden
After "digging deep" into the study of plant structures, processes, and adaptations around the world, students enjoy a guided tour at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. This trip
brings our science studies to life!
Overnight adventures are an exciting part of our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders' off-campus experiential learning.
