After extensive auditioning in December, the musicians receiving the highest marks were invited to participate in the annual GMEA District 12 band concerts during the weekend of Feb. 4-6. Whitefield Academy Sophomore Sophie Lee was selected to play flute in the 2009/10 Grade Clinic Band–which concluded its weekend-long practices with a concert on Feb. 6.
As noted by one of the guest conductors, the three most highly acclaimed high school band areas in the country are northern Virginia, northern Chicago, and Cobb County, GA–which makes the selection process even more selective.
Sophie is from Daegu, Korea and is completing her first year at Whitefield. Besides being a member of the marching and concert bands, she is also the manager of the JV Volleyball team and a leader in community service projects.
