Sitting in the #1 Rank for Class A for most the season and securing a 21-3 record, the Whitefield Varsity Boys Basketball Team looks to captures its second straight State Title.
At 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, the Whitefield boys will gear up to take on Social Circle. With the dominating record and slated as the #1 seed, Whitefield is clearly the favorite. Also this marks only the second time in the past three years that the Social Circle boys have made it to the state tournament.
“This season has certainly been an unexpected blessing from God,” Head Coach Tyrone Johnson said. “After losing eight seniors from last year’s State Championship team, it would be difficult to imagine that we would have the same opportunity to repeat last year’s success. While last year’s team had an extraordinary amount of talent, this year’s team has proven that they are capable of doing some special things as well.”
On the home front, with one State Championship and three runner-up finishes in the previous six years, the Whitefield boys basketball program is getting some well-deserved recognition as one of the dominant forces in Class A high school basketball.
With wins over opponents such as East Hall and taking first at the Dothan/Eagle Holiday Classic Tournament in Alabama, Johnson noted that the spirit of this team is unlike any other and that “they have found a way to unselfishly play with a sense of valor, integrity, and Whitefield fight throughout the season.”
