Whitefield's Junior Varsity Lacrosse team had a very successful first
season with a record of four wins and two losses. Although the team played
a fairly limited schedule, opponents included such established programs as
Wesleyan and Holy Innocents'. The Lax Pack was able to defeat Wesleyan
both times they tangled, Holy Innocents' in their only meeting, and in the
final game of the season avenge two previous losses to Mount Paran with a
decisive 8 - 5 victory at the Wolfpacks’ inaugural home lacrosse match.
The contribution of the seniors was outstanding. Senior Conner Blair
led the team with his experience, scoring and leadership. Although
newcomers to the sport of lacrosse, seniors Forrest Parks, Sam Schuler, John
Wilson, and Hayes Mohney added much needed toughness and physical play which
helped set an example for future classes on how to conduct oneself in a
varsity setting. They will long be remembered for the influence they had on
the first Whitefield team.
A number of other players made significant contributions to the success
of the team including Leland Manning, Coaches Award winner Dallas Darling,
Apprentice Award winner Max Rieves, and Cornerstone Award winner, goalie,
Matt Milburn. Also many thanks go out to community coach Tony Leggy. Coach
Leggy's experience with lacrosse as well as his passion for the game and
commitment to the players helped the season to be a successful one.
The future indeed looks bright for Whitefield's lacrosse program as a
number of experienced underclassmen will be returning next year as the Pack
will play its first full varsity schedule. Thanks to all the great parents
especially Liz Darling and Beth Reagan.
