The Varsity Track teams had a wonderful showing in the state championships! Briana Jones won state in discus throwing, with a hurl of 122 feet and 4 inches. This was her personal best and this is the second time she has won a state championship in discus.
The Boys team followed up its Region Championship with a 4th place finish at the State Championship track meet in Jefferson last weekend. Cameron Thornton led the charge with first place finishes in the 800m and in the 1600m. Cameron completed the 1600m in a new personal record time of 4:22.699, knocking 12 seconds off his previous best time.
Whitefield closed out a great meet with a first place finish with Cameron Thornton, Murphy Alexander, Cameron Lemons and R. J. Willis in the 4x400m relay. Their winning time of 3:26.911 is the fastest time in the state in class A this season. Cameron’s 22.5 individual points was second best in the meet in class A.
Other points scorers were Andrew Dunkleberger, who placed 2nd in the discus and Christian Nash who finished 8th in the 300m hurdles.
