Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer.
- Psalm 61:1
As a community of believers at Whitefield Academy, we are privileged to intercede in prayer for one another. The Whitefield Parent Association sponsors a weekly prayer group that
all Whitefield parents are invited to attend. The prayer group meets every Friday from 8:15 to 9:15 in the Upper School Faculty Reading Room (on the lower floor of the US building).
We would love to have you join us at this informal gathering of parents as we lift up the needs of our children, school, teachers and staff!
What is prayer?
As followers of the living and active Jesus Christ, Whitefield families are called to spend time with Him in prayer. What is prayer?
- Prayer is a relationship with the living and active Jesus.
- Prayer is a powerful resource given to us by God in order to bring all of our concerns to Him.
- Prayer is work
- Prayer is the expression of the human heart in conversation with God.
Types of prayer
A relationship with the living and active Jesus can be developed through different kinds of prayer.
Personal Prayer
Jesus said, "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
Matthew 6:6 He did not say "if" we pray, but when we pray. We as believers are responsible for developing a daily, personal prayer life of our own.
Corporate Prayer
"Again, I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have
gathered together in my name, there I am in their midst." Matthew 18:19-20
It is a joy and a responsibility to gather to pray. Our students gather weekly to pray for one another. Our parents gather weekly to pray for our school. Administrators and faculty
and staff pause to pray for each other and the ministry of Whitefield.
Intercessory Prayer
"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom
and understanding." Colossians 1:9
God is always seeking intercessors. Intercession means standing in the gap for others. It is when we pray for the needs of others totally unfocused on ourselves. One way to bolster
our Whitefield families is to pray for each other in their time of need.
