Whitefield Academy - a Christ-centered college preparatory school
Location
Whitefield Academy, a Christ-centered preparatory school in the Smyrna/Vinings area of northwest Atlanta, is located at One Whitefield Drive, two miles from the intersection
of S. Cobb Drive and I-285.
Philosophy
Whitefield Academy exists uniquely at the intersection of three key values it seeks to impart to its students.
- Whitefield Academy intends that its students will be rigorous life-long learners who expect the best of themselves without compromise.
- It intends that its students make their life decisions as evangelical Christians without apology.
- And Whitefield Academy seeks to instill in its students a clear desire to have a positive impact on their friends, families, professions and communities.
Covenant School Concept
In the spirit of George Whitefield, the school accepts and encourages applicants from all Christian denominations, Protestant and Catholic alike, who wish to join other Christian
believers in providing their children the finest Christ-centered preparatory school education. Teaching a young person Godly discretion, wisdom, and discernment is a challenging
task which we believe occurs more fruitfully and abundantly when home and school are in complete accord. A covenant school is a community of Christian believers who are engaged
not only in the important endeavor of education, but in discipleship and spiritual growth as well. Consequently, all teachers, administrators, and trustees, and at least one parent
of an applicant, must affirm his or her Christian commitment and faith. Students are not necessarily expected to have already made a Christian commitment; exploring the Christian
faith is part of the Whitefield Academy experience.
Accreditation
Whitefield Academy is accredited by the
Southern Association of Colleges
and Schools (SACS), and the
Southern Association of Independent Schools.
Enrollment
Whitefield Academy currently enrolls 655 students (PreK-4 through 12). The current student/teacher ratio is fewer than 10 to 1. It is one of the Whitefield Academy distinctions
to have small class sizes in a Christian school setting.
History
After two years of careful planning and prayer, Whitefield Academy opened its doors as a new school on August 25, 1997, with 96 students in grades 6-12. The founding Board of
Trustees consisted of the following: David Jones (Chairman), Betsy Akers, Jack Camarda, John Dail, David Deeter, Wallace Francis, Gordy Germany, Joe Hamilton III, Matt Hawkins,
Marty McDevitt, Larry Powell, Patty Renfroe, Stacy Quiros, Jack Sibley, and Chad Zimmerman. The move to the new campus in Smyrna was made in time for the opening of school in August, 2000.

Faculty
The faculty and administrators of Whitefield Academy all share the same teaching philosophy and support its adherence to being a Christian school. Our teaching philosophy emphasizes
mentoring and personal relationships; therefore, faculty members serve as club sponsors, coaches, and advisors, as well as classroom instructors. In addition, each teacher must make a
personal statement of faith in Jesus Christ, as well as affirm the authority of Scripture and essential Christian doctrine. Each teacher must be a practicing, committed Christian. Faculty
members are hired on the basis of high academic qualifications, significant experience, proven character, love of the teaching profession, and Christian maturity. They hold a
variety of degrees from many of the finest regional, national, and international colleges and universities. Many teachers have advanced degrees in their fields.
