In the first month of school every year, all Middle School and Upper School students
depart for our fall retreat to SharpTop Cove. SharpTop Cove is one of 25 camps owned
and operated by Young Life. The camp is 70 miles north of Atlanta, and is nestled
in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on 1150 acres. The property has five
beautiful mountain streams, water falls, hiking trails, scenic views and is loaded
with fun activities for our students. During this overnight trip, the kids spend
time in worship, devotionals and various exciting outdoor activities. They bounce
off of "The Blob," swing on the "Giant Swing," and scare themselves silly on the
"Quantum Leap." It is a wonderful time of fellowship and spiritual growth.

Every spring, 7th and 8th grade Whitefield students gather on a Saturday night for
a time of music and dancing. It is a red carpet affair with flashing lights and
many stars (including our students)! There is a live DJ, a photographer taking candid
and posed shots of our students with their friends, snacks, soft drinks, punch and
more. Dress is nice casual. At the end of the night students get to take home their
photos, as well as a surprise memento for all. It is an exciting night!

These are events we have early in the year to encourage fellowship within the new
6th grade. On the Boys Night Out, we have six or eight different video games running
all around the Barnett Gathering Room. Talk about “data overload!” This is a chance
for the boys to spend some time with their teachers and dads for food and great
fellowship. On the Girls Night Out, the kids gather with teachers and moms and watch
a movie, eat popcorn and paint their nails. The kids love it!

At various times during the school year, Middle School students are invited to stick
around after school on Fridays for movies, food, fun and fellowship. Sometimes we
break up by grade, sometimes we invite the whole Middle School, but we always have
fun. We watch movies on the “big screen” in the George Whitefield Room, and it is
chaperoned by faculty members and parents.

Every fall, all Whitefield Academy Middle School students are invited to the MS
Carnival on a Saturday evening. The kids (and teachers!) bounce on the Jumbo Bounce,
slide down the Giant Slide, race the 60’ Obstacle Course, box in the Bouncy Boxing
ring, bungee on the Bungee Challenge, and compete in the Laser Throw, Frisbee Distance
Throw and the Kick-n-Score games. They can win a cake in the Cake Walk, enter the
pumpkin decorating contest, have a caricature drawn, enjoy pizza, cotton candy,
popcorn and MORE!!!!!! A live DJ will serves as the Master of Ceremonies. Teachers
and parents receive complimentary Advil for the next week.

During a week in the fall and a week in the spring, Middle School students get fired
up with school spirit when they come to school dressed up in various crazy outfits.
We have College Days (College T-shirt and/or hat with jeans), Tacky Days (Dress
as tacky as you want!), and a variety of other highly imaginative outfits. We always
end with Blue and Gold Day, and often we end the week with a pep rally in the Athletic
Center, where we award prizes for the most spirited individual dressers and the
most spirited class.

At the end of every year, we have a field day, when our Middle School kids get out
all of their excess energy before we buckle down for the last charge into exams.
We (students and teachers) participate in all sorts of NCAA sanctioned sports, such
as egg and water balloon tosses, the shovel relay and the pedestal joust. It is
especially cool when they do the dizzy bat race right after the “feed your face”
relay. The winning teams get prizes, such as Smoothies or giant Snickers Bars. Then
we send them home full of sugar energy. It is a great way to finish the year!
