Whitefield continues to integrate technology to enhance instruction in the classroom and engage students through interactive
learning. Our school-wide goal following our reaccreditation by SAIS/SACS in November 2007 was to increase the school’s
use of technology.
Through a technology committee, funds designated by the school, and a generous donation by a Whitefield Academy parent,
we have made great progress. We are excited about advancements that enable teachers to use resources available through the
internet and various software programs in a way that is transforming instruction.
Recent additions:
- Tablet laptop computers for all Middle and Upper School teachers
- LCD Projectors in Middle and Upper School classrooms that can be used with tablet PCs, TVs, DVD players, and the internet
- A mobile teaching computer lab with 20 computers, also known as an Apple Cart, in the Lower School
- A new position in which a classroom teacher leads the way in prioritizing technology in the classroom and training teachers
in its uses
- Smart boards in all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms
- Smart boards in US computer science and mathematics classrooms
- LEGO robots in AP Computer Science
Additionally, the school library is equipped with a wide selection of online databases so that the technology at Whitefield
is accessible beyond the walls of the school. We offer a range of courses in technology from keyboarding and computer applications
in Lower School to AP Computer Science in Upper School. Other technology improvements include an online grade book, an extensive
website, paperless invoicing, and other functional advancements that optimize the efficiency of school operations and the
timeliness of communication between home and school.
