The college application process requires careful planning and dedication in order to meet the required deadlines. The process is outlined in a month-to-month format in our Senior
Planning Calendar. If a student follows this calendar, he or she should have no problem meeting the required college deadlines. However, it is recommended that students begin
the process even earlier if possible. For example, writing essays during the summer of the junior year would be greatly beneficial and reduce the stress levels that sometimes
arise when students are attempting to apply for colleges while taking academic classes and participating in extracurricular activities. Many college applications (such as the
Common Application) are available in mid- to late- summer, so it is possible to begin writing essays early. In addition, compiling a list of the student’s extracurricular activities,
awards, and community service projects can be completed during the summer. Every college application requests this information in some form and it would be wise to complete it
early.
A completed Application Mailing Checklist should accompany each college application submitted to the counseling
department, even if the application has been completed on-line. Applications will not be submitted to colleges without this checklist. Payment must accompany a paper application
at the time it is submitted to the college counseling department. Completing a Transcript Request Form is unnecessary for each college application; transcripts are automatically
mailed with each application. A copy of the
School Profile is also automatically submitted with each application.
If a student or parent wishes a copy of the transcript for personal use, please submit the request form.
Remember that students should submit Teacher Recommendation Request Forms to faculty members at least one month
in advance of a college application deadline. While faculty members are ready and willing to provide recommendations for students, they are not required to honor a student’s request,
and not expected to complete recommendation forms on a last minute basis.
