As a college preparatory institution, Whitefield Academy is committed to preparing students for higher education through a rigorous academic program taught by dedicated and knowledgeable
faculty members. However, the school recognizes that preparing students for life and a career is more complex than simply completing a series of classes. As our graduates matriculate
into college, they are faced with a myriad of questions and decisions regarding their future: What am I most interested in pursuing? What is my purpose in life? How can I work
to achieve this purpose through manageable yet challenging goals? What part does God play in my planning?
For this reason, Whitefield Academy has instituted an extensive Life and Career Planning program to help students discover the answers to these questions, with the assistance
of trained professionals. The program (completed in a student’s junior year) identifies a student’s natural aptitudes and provides the student with practical tools to pinpoint
and achieve life goals. The program is exclusive to Whitefield Academy and is offered at no cost to our students and their parents.
Part one of Whitefield Academy’s Life and Career Planning program is a leadership development class. Experienced counselors meet on campus regularly with small groups of students
for an entire semester. During this meeting time students take personality tests, define areas of interest, identify personal values, and formulate a clear understanding of who
they are through a series of discussions, tests, and interactive exercises. The classes are led by the Leadership Development Company of Atlanta, a Christ-centered organization
dedicated to building Christian leaders in the community.
Johnson O’Connor Research Foundation conducts the second segment of Whitefield’s Life and Career Planning program. Johnson O’ Connor is a 75-year-old firm that assesses natural
aptitudes, inherited traits, and special abilities. Students spend a day at the Johnson O’Connor research facility completing a series of tests to identify natural aptitudes such
as the ability to produce a flow of ideas (ideaphoria), the ability to reason and draw natural conclusions (inductive reasoning), and the ability to deal with paper, figures,
and symbols quickly and accurately (graphoria). The firm tests for over 10 natural aptitudes with the understanding that students who choose fields of study which use these natural
gifts are more likely to succeed professionally and be satisfied individuals.
At the conclusion of this extensive Life and Career Planning program, the student and parents meet with Whitefield’s college counselor, a representative from the Leadership Development
Company, and a representative from Johnson O’Conner in order to review results and discuss how these results can be applied to college choices. Whitefield juniors become equipped
during their academic year with an understanding of who they are, where they are going, and how they are going to get there. Extensive documentation of an individual student’s
life and career planning program is provided to that student as a reference for college, graduate school, and beyond.
