Senior Year College Calendar
AUGUST/SEPTEMBER
- Immediately: Register with Common Application at commonapp.org the first week of school. Even if you are not applying
to a common app school you will need the common app user name and password to complete required waivers on Naviance.
- Immediately: Once registered on Common App, log onto Naviance at http://connection.naviance.com/whitefield.
You registered with Naviance at the end of your junior year at school. Go under the “colleges I’m applying to” tab and sign the FERPA waiver. You will need to have your common
app user name and password to complete the waiver. This waiver must be signed before the College Counseling Office can send out any documents to colleges.
- Register for October SAT (at www.collegeboard.com) or ACT (www.act.org)
- optional.
- Attend College Night at Westminster on August 29th at 7:00 pm
- Obtain up-to-date college applications for your top five to six college choices and notify Mrs. Parks of these schools via Naviance and the “colleges I’m thinking about” link.
Continue working on college essays and first drafts of applications.
- Schedule an appointment with Mrs. Parks by September 15th. (First come, first served)
- Complete activities resume on Naviance and submit to Mrs. Parks via Naviance by Sept. 15th.
- Teacher Recommendations: Inform Mrs. Parks of the teacher(s) whom you want to write recommendations for you. Ask the teachers and give them the correct school form no less
than 3 weeks prior to submission. (see: “Requesting Teacher Recommendations for College Applications” in this packet for more detailed instructions)
- Deadline for requesting teacher recommendations for early action/early decision applications is September 2nd
- On or before 9/15 - submit application checklist to Mrs. Parks or Mrs. Bracher for all application deadlines that fall on or before 10/1
- On or before 9/30 – submit application checklist to Mrs. Parks or Mrs. Bracher for all early decision/early action applications with deadlines that fall between 10/1
and 10/15
- If interested in special programs (such as Honors Programs) check the college website for applications and deadlines.
- Potential College Athletes: register with NCAA Eligibility Center (see insert for help)
- Attend the Woodward Academy College Fair on September 11th from 2:30 – 4:00 pm.
- Attend on-campus meetings with visiting college representatives and plan fall college visits.
- Work toward community service hours (minimum of 5 hours off campus)
OCTOBER
- On or before 10/14 - submit application checklist to Mrs. Parks or Mrs. Bracher for all application deadlines that fall on or after 11/1. If applying online, submit a
confirmation of your completed application to Mrs. Parks. If not applying online, submit full paper application. Once Mrs. Parks has received your completed application checklist
and any necessary forms or fees, she will send your official transcript, along with a letter of recommendation, any required teacher recommendations and a school profile.
- Take October SAT - optional.
- Register for November SAT if you are not satisfied with your previous scores.
- Essays: Write, write and rewrite! Have your essays reviewed by an English teacher.
- If a minimum of 2 applications are completed and submitted to Mrs. Parks by October 10th, you will receive a day off on 10/12 during PSAT testing.
- Work toward community service hours (minimum of 5 hours off campus)
NOVEMBER
- Deadline for requesting teacher recs for regular decision applications is 11/4. Have teacher sign teacher rec request form and give a copy to Mrs. Parks
- Continue researching scholarships and institutional opportunities of specific colleges. Check out www.scholarship.com
and www.fastweb.com for potential scholarship.
- TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 22nd (day before THANKSGIVING break) - ALL APPLICATIONS NEED TO BE COMPLETED AND CHECKLIST GIVEN TO COLLEGE COUNSELOR THE DAY BEFORE WE GET OUT! This
is to insure that Mrs. Parks can give each application the necessary time required to have everything in order by January 1st.
- Work toward community service hours (minimum of 5 hours off campus)
- Attend Financial Aid evening at Westminster on November 3rd at 7:00 pm
JANUARY
- Submit financial aid (FAFSA) forms as soon after January 1st as possible. The earlier colleges receive this information, the more likely you are to receive aid.
- Notify Mrs. Parks of your acceptances!!
- The College Counseling office will send your mid-year transcript.
- Work toward community service hours (minimum of 5 hours off campus)
FEBRUARY – MAY
- Use second college visits and interviews to help you make your final decision.
- Determine your final choice and notify College Counselor of your decision.
- Please inform Mrs. Parks of any and all scholarship/grant offers, even to schools you will not attend.
- Notify other schools where you have been accepted of your decision not to enroll once you have made your decision.
- Send in tuition/room deposits to hold your place and secure a good dormitory situation.
- Work toward community service hours (minimum of 5 hours off campus)
JUNE
- Your final transcript will be sent to your college choice.
- you will be competing in Division I or Division II collegiate sports, your final transcript will be sent to the NCAA Center.
