Experiential Learning

Whitefield Lower School teachers use experiential learning to help students apply knowledge to an experience in order to develop skills and deepen understanding. Read below to discover some of the fun experiential learning opportunities in the Lower School!

First Grade Science

To accompany a fun and exciting science unit about animals, first-grade students get an intimate look at the life cycle of eagles through online live eagle cams. In the spring, students visit Tellus Science museum as a wrap-up of the science unit on rocks. Biblical integration is deeply rooted in the objectives taught during this unit and connections are made with Genesis and the story of God creating the Earth.

Lower School Spanish

In Lower School Spanish, students connect words and movements through singing and sign language. By engaging different learning styles and experiences, students not only reinforce the vocabulary they’ve learned, but also gain a deeper understanding of Spanish culture.

Lower School Science Lab

The Science Lab is an extension of the Science curriculum taught in the classroom. In the lab, students experience hands-on instruction and experimentation, as well as the the thrill of discovering God’s creative power, complexity, and design. The Science Lab exists to inspire students to see the Creator in every science discovery and to encourage them to be the best stewards of all He has provided.

Others Ahead of Self

To truly cultivate an "others ahead of self" atmosphere at Whitefield, students collaborate in acts of giving and service. Some of the grade level service projects include gathering personal care items for local nursing home residents and learning the origin and meaning of Christmas carols prior to visiting and singing at nursing homes. Experiential opportunities help to foster a lifelong commitment to sharing God's love through service.
