Jessica Bonnem's Creative Writing class recently visited Delmar Gardens, a Smyrna retirement community, and took on the role of journalistic reporter. Each student was matched with a resident from the community to interview. The students heard stories of lost love, accidental death, and even war-time fighter pilot maneuvering. Each student will take those interview notes and turn them into a piece of creative nonfiction that tells a true story from the resident’s life. The residents were overjoyed to share their wisdom with the next generation, and the students were amazed at the wide variety of life experiences on display. They look forward to writing down these stories and returning them to Delmar Gardens soon.
