Penny Crosland
Teacher Assistant Third Grade
Penny Crosland serves as a teacher's assistant in the Lower School. Before working in the field of education, Crosland was a nurse. She earned her Bachelor of Nursing Science from DePauw University and her MCE from Columbia International University. She began her nursing career in Greenville, South Carolina, worked in an oncology unit in Miami, Florida, and worked for the State of Georgia Health Department. Crosland retired from nursing to raise her two children, John and Cathy, who are both Whitefield graduates. She became a part of the Whitefield staff in 2000 because she treasured her children's experiences at Whitefield and wanted to be a part of this community.

Why Whitefield
Our family was looking for middle schools for our son and daughter. The Lord led us to Whitefield. It was still located on Northside Drive at that time and we lived in Mableton which was quite a long drive. It was worth the investment. The solid education from wonderful men and women who loved God and followed after Him was worth the cost of time and money.

Why did I start working for Whitefield? I was blessed to stay home with the children in their younger years. Before children I worked as a nurse in different hospitals and clinics. When I started thinking about going back to work I was not interested in hospital hours or shifts. Whitefield needed substitutes. I started slowly by substituting in the Middle School and Upper School, enjoying the time in classes. Then Whitefield started their Lower School. The position of teacher's assistant fit my gifts and passions. I have had the privilege of being the third-grade teacher assistant since 2000.

Why I love teaching:
I love being a teacher's assistant. It is a joy to watch the children grow and learn. I enjoy sharing the love of Christ with the students in my care. It can be a simple smile or hug, a kind word, or a loving reminder.
