Varsity Track Team Qualifies 13 Athletes for State

Thirteen Whitefield track and field athletes qualified in 12 events for the state meet at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, on May 11-13 after competing at the area meet at Darlington on April 20 and the very competitive sectional meet at Landmark Christian on April 29.

The girls 4x100 relay team of Logan VanArsdale, Kaitlyn Johnson, Shelby Wingate, and Amilya Little qualified for state with a season-best time of 49.9 seconds. Also qualifying in individual events were Shelby Wingate in the 100m and Emily Little in the 1600m and 3200m. Just missing out was senior long jumper Kaitlyn Johnson, who missed qualifying by 1/4 inch.

For the boys, Carson Brown qualified for state with a personal and season-best throw of 147'9" in the discus and 48'0" in the shot put in the area meet. Also, Nicholas Harris qualified in the triple jump with a season-best jump of 41'2''. Just missing out in the high jump was freshman Louis Brogan, who jumped 5"10" to tie three other jumpers for the last qualifying spot, but lost out on a tie-breaker.

The boys 4x100m relay team of Nicholas Harris, Willie Fulks, Julian Munoz, and Brian Pickens qualified for state in a school record time of 43.75! Also qualifying in individual events were Willie Fulks in the 100m, Brian Pickens in the 400m, Zachary Justice and Caleb Corliss in the 1600m, and Zachary Justice and Devin Wade in the 3200m.
