Serving students in 9th through 12th grade, the Upper School at Whitefield Academy partners with families to solidify students’ academic, spiritual, and social foundation as they prepare for college and life.
Whether your child has been at Whitefield since PreK or will be joining the Pack in the 9th grade, the rigorous and supportive Upper School curriculum is intentionally designed to build upon strong academic foundations and to stretch and challenge students in the pursuit of college readiness. Students moving into the Upper School at Whitefield Academy receive purposeful guidance in the form of academic coaching.
J-Term is a highlight of the Upper School experience. The first week of January is a week-long immersive educational experience during which students engage in local, regional, domestic, or international courses. This week is set aside to deep-dive into a variety of experiences that foster a passion for learning, others ahead of self, and the living and active Jesus.
Whitefield sees J-Term as an opportunity to deepen Christ-centered transformational learning by building small communities of staff and students who share interests. Each year, faculty and staff design courses aligned with Whitefield’s mission and their personal areas of giftedness and passion. Upper School students then choose the course most relevant to their personal area of interest. Every year, teachers propose new and exciting course offerings that fit into the categories of Introspective, Missions, Passions, STEAM, and Internships.
During J-Term, students can serve in another country or their community, experience a new culture, deepen their faith, learn a new skill, discover new interests, or see how the content they learn in class is applied in the real world. Course offerings vary in focus, location, and cost. Students look forward to their time in J-Term because of the relationships formed and the chance to learn something they might not learn in the traditional classroom setting.
Examples of previous course offerings include:
