Lower School

After-School Programs

When the school day is over, activity at the Lower School is most certainly not!

Musicians and ballerinas practice and learn pieces to perform at winter and spring recitals. Chess players play rounds of chess and represent the school as they compete in local tournaments. Developing athletes gain skills and develop a healthy lifestyle that will contribute to their success and to the success of the Whitefield athletic program, should they decide to participate athletically at the Middle School or Upper School level. Young artists mold their next masterpiece from a lump of clay and young scientists create their first robots or test the principles of science.

Whitefield’s after-school programs offer young students a chance to explore an area of interest and discover new talents. Parents sign their children up for academic, arts, or athletic classes (on a first-come, first –serve basis) for a fee, and then enjoy the benefit of knowing their children are learning with friends in a safe and loving environment. Parents love the convenient location and educational experiences of our after-school programs and kids love the fun and friendships. Classes are led by school faculty or well-qualified instructors from the community.

Classes offered each semester may vary. Below is a list of classes that have been offered:

  • Art
  • Ballet
  • Chess
  • Chorale
  • Piano (individual lessons)

  • Soccer

Programs vary by semester, and online signups for ASPs occur at two times in the school year. For the fall, the signups open on the first Friday of school year, with a reminder letter sent home in the Thursday folder the day prior. Fall ASPs begin in September, after Labor Day. For the spring, the signups open the Friday after Thanksgiving break, with a reminder letter sent home in the Thursday folder the day prior. Spring ASPs begin the first day back to school after Christmas break, in January.

Plans are still being made to be able to provide complete or modified Fall 2020 ASPs to Lower School students. Like every year, programs will not begin until after Labor Day, so a more comprehensive plan adhering to health guidelines per program will be communicated after the school year begins in August.
