Whitefield Fund FAQs

What is the Whitefield Fund?

The Whitefield Fund is Whitefield's most important giving priority. This annual fund provides support to every area of the school and is critical to ensuring our school continues to grow and thrive. Support of the Whitefield Fund demonstrates the commitment to the school's mission and provides programs and activities that enhance the student experience at Whitefield.

What is the goal for the Whitefield Fund?

Our goal for the Whitefield Fund is 100% parent participation.

How much am I expected to give?

Every. Gift. Matters. Your gift should be a prayerful decision from your family. We would like 100% participation from our parents as well as Faculty/Staff and Board of Trustees, so any and all gifts are welcome and encouraged. The only gift too small is no gift at all.

Will a small gift make a difference?

Yes! Each gift is important to Whitefield and is unique and special to each family. We only ask that you participate. Every contribution - no matter how much - makes a difference. High parent participation helps Whitefield receive foundation grants for capital campaigns. In the last capital campaign, nearly $6 million came from Atlanta area foundations that cited Whitefield's high participation among parents and grandparents as a factor in making that grant.

How do I make my gift?

The Whitefield Fund offers donors a number of giving opportunities including cash gifts, online giving, ACH transfers, matching gifts, employer giving programs, and stock transfers. If giving by check, please mail contributions to:

Whitefield Academy
Attn: Jan White
1 Whitefield Drive MOD 400
Smyrna, GA 30126

Can I designate my gift to a specific area at Whitefield?

We ask that Whitefield Fund gifts be undesignated. However, you may choose to direct your gift to a specific area of the school that you find most meaningful: athletics, faculty/staff professional development, fine arts, spiritual growth, student life, technology, or area of greatest need. If you have a specific capital project that you are interested in funding, please contact Lauren Race at [email protected] or on 678-305-3042.

What is the matching gift program?

You can multiply your gift to Whitefield Academy if your employer has a matching gift program. Thousands of companies have programs that will double, or even triple, individual tax-deductible contributions made by their employees. The Whitefield Fund qualifies for these matches as an educational institution. Check below to see if your company participates in this program.

Will Your Employer Match?

Will my gift be tax-deductible?

Yes. Whitefield is a 501(c) 3 not-for profit organization and all gifts are tax-deductible.

What is Whitefield’s tax ID number?

Whitefield’s tax identification number is 58-1224983.

What is the difference between Whitefield Fund, capital campaign, and endowment?

Gifts to a capital campaign allow us to build facilities, add programs, and strengthen our endowment. Capital campaign gifts are restricted to the specific purpose of the associated campaign. Whitefield fund gifts by definition are unrestricted. Whitefield recognizes the long-term benefits of an endowment. Whitefield’s current endowment is designated to benefit facility maintenance and low-income families through tuition assistance. All capital campaigns for new facilities include an endowed amount for perpetual facility maintenance.

When should I give?

While the Whitefield Fund accepts gifts throughout the year, your early gift or pledge is important and helps us reach 100% participation. We ask current families to give or pledge during our six-week campaign in the fall. Pledge payments are due by June 30, 2024.

Does the Georgia GOAL Scholarship tax credit count as my Whitefield Fund gift?

Why aren’t activity fees and booster club membership dues considered Whitefield Fund gifts?

Items such as activity fees and booster club dues do not meet IRS guidelines for 501(c)(3) tax deductibility due to the direct value received in return. Gifts to the Whitefield Fund are tax-deductible and they are used to minimize the fees and expenses associated with our students’ extra-curricular activities.

Why don’t we do fundraisers instead of the Whitefield Fund?

Instead of asking students to become “salespersons” in their neighborhoods, Whitefield seeks voluntary gifts to our Whitefield Fund. Families support Whitefield because they believe in the mission of Whitefield as a diverse, Christ-centered, college preparatory school. The amount contributed through our Whitefield Fund is far greater than a school would ever raise selling products.
